Theatre Technician - Short Courses

Learn the art of stagecraft while gaining practical experience at the Met in Abertillery and other Awen venues.

From the planning and setting up of equipment before performances to operating lighting rigs and sound desks during shows, Theatre Technicians work hard to make sure every production is a success.  

Our Theatre Technician courses will equip you with the hands-on skills and knowledge needed to build a successful career working behind-the-scenes on live events, stage performances and location-based productions.

Working with industry-standard equipment and guided by qualified theatre technical professionals, you will have the opportunity to learn about:  

  • QLab software used for designing and playing back sound, video, light, and show control cues.
  • Setting up lighting systems and programming lighting console.
  • Working with PA systems, soundconsole and mics.
  • Stage management and set design. 
  • How to operate stage flying systems.
  • PAT testing, theatre electrics and other health and safety requirements. 

The sessions are FREE of charge and will run from September 2023 to March 2024 at the Met in Abertillery from 6pm – 9pm on Monday evenings (term time only).

No previous experience required – open to anyone aged 16 and over.
