Pencoed Library has been officially reopened in its 50th anniversary year.

During its short closure period, the library has been completely transformed into a bright, welcoming space for the whole community to use and enjoy.

Our regular customers won’t believe the difference!

Thanks to funding from Welsh Government’s Transformation Capital Grant Programme, the furniture has been updated with more mobile options so that the space can be used for flexibly for activities and events; there are new work pods for those who need quiet areas to concentrate on their school or studies; and there is a new community meeting room for local groups and support services to hire.

Awen Cultural Trust, which manages library services on behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council, provided match funding to install solar panels on the south-facing roof, contributing to creating a more sustainable building.

A huge thanks to everyone involved in making this happen, from the team at Pencoed Library, other Awen staff, Pencoed Town Council – who kindly provided space to allow the library to continue with book loans and events throughout the redevelopment, Bridgend County Borough Council for their continued support, and those involved in the design and build phase.

Over the coming week, Pencoed Library will be holding their first-ever World Book Day School Quiz, and all their usual activities will – Bounce & Rhyme, Code Club, Story time & Craft – will return. They will also be starting an adult reading group, Welsh language conversation group and sessions for home educators. Follow the Pencoed Library Facebook page for the latest information.
