Awen Cultural Trust is working in partnership with Gig Buddies Wales, BAVO and Learning Disability Wales to offer a free, relaxed screening of the film Heavy Load (12A) at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl on Saturday 11th February at 7.30pm.
Described by film critic Mark Kermode as “a really, really fine music documentary”, the film tells the story of Heavy Load, a British punk band whose members include some musicians with learning disabilities. It follows the band over two years, as they record their first album, tour larger venues and redefine the Kylie hit ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ in irresistible, earworm fashion!
The film flies the flag for Stay Up Late, a charity which enables adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to lead active social lives, and their project Gig Buddies which pairs up people with and without learning disabilities to become friends and attend events together.
The film will be followed by a question and answer session on Zoom with Paul Richards, member of Heavy Load and founder of Stay Up Late, and director Jerry Rothwell.
Tickets are free of charge and are available from: https://orlo.uk/iUQ8B
