Children’s half-term events across Awen not to be missed  

As always, we have numerous exciting events organised for February half-term across our venues this year. Whilst some are returning by popular demand, some activities are brand new to Awen, promising lots of entertainment and fun for the whole family. Whether you are looking for something to get your children outdoors or searching for a show that will delight the whole family, take a look at our top pick of events coming to our venues across February half-term.

Tom Foolery’s Beans on Toast at The Grand Pavilion 

Bursting with magic, silliness, music and much more, Beans on Toast is sure to be a hit with all the family this half-term, young or old. With over 12 years’ experience entertaining children, Tom’s antics and tricks are for all ages, even the grown-ups. If you are looking for a fun few hours with lots of slapstick entertainment, this energetic show is certain to put a smile on your family’s face.

Kev F’s Comic Art Masterclass at Maesteg Town Hall  

Having previously written and drawn for The Beano, Doctor Who and Marvel comics, he will now teach you how easy it is to do so too!  

Join us at Maesteg Town Hall this February half-term for an exciting workshop perfect for young creatives. Everyone will go away with a comic made by everyone in the class plus an individual caricature by Kev F himself!  

You never know, you may grow up to steal his job!

Nest Box Building at Bryngarw Country Park  

You can encourage birds into your garden this spring by providing plenty of spaces to nest. This will bring you a plethora of fascinating bird behaviour to watch, all whilst encouraging your children to learn about the fabulous wildlife we have living in South Wales.  

To get started, join our park rangers this February half-term and build your own nest box. All materials are provided for the activity and it’s a great way to keep the little ones occupied.

Children’s Willow Weaving Workshops at Bryngarw Country Park  

Are you looking for an activity to get your children creative this half-term? Our team at Awen have organised for the fantastic Out to Learn Willow group to lead a workshop that will demonstrate how to make fun and exciting willow crafts. From butterflies and fish to hearts and swords, children will have the chance to get creative and take home each of their fabulous creations.

Daytime & Evening Cinema: A Star is Born at Maesteg Town Hall  

Age Rating – 15 

A remake of the 1937 film, A Star Is Born is a 2018 American Musical Romantic Drama starting Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga as its main characters. The film follows a hard-drinking musician (Cooper) who discovers and falls in love with a young singer.  

Chosen by the American Film Institude as one of the Top 10 films of 2018, this title has received numerous accolades including five nominations at the Golden Globe Awards including Best Motion Picture and winning Best Original Song for Gaga’s “Shallow”.  

The daytime showing of this film is on Wednesday 27th February at 11am. Meanwhile, the evening showing of this title is on Thursday 28th February at 8pm. Tickets for both showings can be purchased online at www.maestegtownhall.co.uk 

A Cabinet of Curiosities at Bridgend Library  

Perfect for all ages from young to old, all creaking hinges and dusty cobwebs are prised open in this entertaining theatre, revealing lots of magical stories, songs, crankies and illuminations amongst the library shelves.  

Organised as part of our Live and Loud programme across Bridgend libraries, this imaginative piece will be set right in the heart of the library where imaginations run wild.  

Thursday 28th February at 14:00pm. Tickets can be purchased online at awen-libraries.ticketsolve.com/shows with a £1.50 discount for library members.  

A Chorus Line Presented by Bridgend Youth Theatre at Grand Pavilion Porthcawl  

Renowned for being the Longest Running Show in Broadway History, this title is guaranteed to take The Grand Pavilion audience on a heart-rendering, nail biting roller-coaster of emotions.  

Join us on a theatrical and musical journey where potential performers are put through their paces to find out if they have got what it takes to be in a Broadway Chorus Line.  

Presented by the brilliantly talented Bridgend Youth Theatre.

Ned and the Whale at Maesteg Town Hall  

During a fishy tail of magic and adventure, Ned and the Whale will scoop up its audience and sail you away on a quest to help Ned find his courage. Discover the truth behind the mysterious Kingdom of Spies whilst encountering strange lands, soaring the sky and jumping feet first into a magical journey.  

Having been described as a “spellbinding show that allows you to leap fearlessly into the far reaches of your imagination”, this title of imaginative storytelling will keep its audience captivated from start to finish.
