We’ve committed to supporting 50 people into employment opportunities or experiences and helping a further 100 people develop transferable skills that promote independence and choice by 2030.

We’re working towards this goal with our Awen Skills programme based at The Met in Abertillery, which is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in partnership with Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

  • Bitesize Marketing Courses: Working in partnership with Blaenau Gwent marketing agency Roseblade Media to offer a series of free marketing masterclasses for small businesses, sole traders and anyone looking to improve their practical marketing skills.

  • Awen Tech Courses: Working in partnership with experienced industry professionals Production 78 to deliver training on some of the backstage technical skills needed in the theatre industry, including lighting and sound.

  • Pyrotechnics: Working in partnership with Just FX, a pyrotechnics and special effects company, to provide a one-day course on safely enhancing events with pyrotechnics and special effects.

Participants said:

"The training was fantastic, informative and everyone had the opportunity to get involved in a comfortable environment."

"I have found this series of marketing courses very insightful, I have learned lots about the marketing industry and feel more confident in upskilling my business and taking it to the next level!"

"I found the course extremely interesting and enjoyed the relaxed style in which it was delivered."
