We have achieved Green Dragon Level 3: Managing Environmental Impacts, marking an important step forward in our commitment to becoming a more sustainable and environmentally responsible organisation.

The Green Dragon Environmental Standard is a recognised, UKAS-accredited environmental standard that supports organisations to understand, monitor and control their impact on the environment. Its five-level framework provides a structured pathway from making an initial commitment to environmental management through to continual environmental improvement. Level 3 specifically recognises that an organisation is actively managing its environmental impacts.

Achieving this accreditation demonstrates that environmental responsibility is becoming increasingly embedded within the way Awen works. It provides independent recognition of the systems and processes we have put in place to identify our environmental impacts, understand our responsibilities and take practical action to manage them.

This achievement directly supports our 2025–30 strategy. One of our key ambitions is to help create a healthy environment where future generations will benefit from a cleaner, more resilient and better understood planet. It also commits us to building a sustainable organisation that is recognised as a responsible, fair and trusted employer and partner.

Green Dragon Level 3 provides a clear and externally recognised framework through which we can support these ambitions. It helps ensure that environmental considerations are included in our planning, operations and decision-making across the diverse venues and services we manage.

Across our diverse portfolio, we welcome more than one million visits each year, giving us both a responsibility and an opportunity to encourage positive environmental action.

Our wider decarbonisation agenda includes ambitions to:

  • increase self-generated renewable energy to 20% of our annual consumption;

  • reduce reliance on fossil fuels by 30% compared with 2023;

  • replace our vehicles with electric models; and

  • maintain Bryngarw Country Park as an exemplar site for natural heritage.

We will continue working with colleagues, communities, local authorities, funders and partners to reduce our environmental impact and explore new, sustainable ways of delivering our services.
