Successful Summer Reading Challenge Launch

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the launch of the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge on Saturday. Hundreds of children and young people have already signed up to read six or more library books over the school summer holidays.

This year’s theme, Read to the Beat, brings a fun, musical twist to reading, encouraging children to discover how stories and songs can spark imagination, creativity and self-expression.

There’s still plenty of time for families to get involved. Simply visit your local Awen library before the start of the new school term to collect a free sticker booklet and begin your Summer Reading Challenge journey.

Our libraries have an exciting programme of free activities taking place throughout the six-week break, including African drumming, coding sessions, Bollywood dance experiences, silent discos, drawing workshops, and movement and dance activities.

There will also be weekly Story and Craft sessions at Y Nyth in Bryngarw Country Park every Tuesday and Thursday.

Places are free but limited, so advance booking is essential via our libraries or online at Awen Box Office.
