First Minister Eluned Morgan MS Visits Maesteg Town Hall

It was a pleasure to welcome the First Minister and Deputy First Minister to our venue today.

Rhannu ar

Maesteg - where our Welsh national anthem was first performed in February 1856 - was a fitting place for the First Minister and Deputy First Minister to officially announce Welsh Government's new St David's Day 2026 Fund.

A choir of pupils from nearby Ysgol Cynwyd Sant sang Gwenno Dafydd's 'St David’s Day Anthem' and 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' beautifully for the audience of local group representatives and other invited guests.

Cllr. Jane Gebbie, Deputy Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, Richard Hughes, Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, and Maesteg Town Hall’s General Manager Marina Newth gave the First Minister a tour of the venue.

It was a wonderful celebration of Wales’ culture, language and community connections.
