“They take my old books away and bring me all my new goodies. It’s a very personalised service.”

For people who are unable to visit their local library, having books delivered directly to their home can provide much more than something new to read. It can offer independence, enjoyment and an important connection with the wider community.
In our new short video, we meet Fiona, one of our Books on Wheels customers and hear, in her own words, what reading means to her.
A former English teacher and lifelong reader, Fiona explains that books have become even more important since she became immobile. Reading helps to fill her time, while the regular delivery of carefully selected titles means she never has to be without a book.
The service is designed around each customer. Readers can request particular books by recording the titles and authors they would like, while the library team can suggest alternatives when a requested title is unavailable. Previously borrowed books are collected when the next selection is delivered, making the experience straightforward and personal.
