Over 2,000 people attended 42 events during this year’s Ogwr History Month, a fantastic opportunity to showcase history societies and sites across Bridgend County Borough and for communities to engage with Welsh and local history.

This year’s programme included exhibitions, open days, walks and talks. New events included a historic comedy show at Maesteg Town Hall, a chaired debate about the 1066 Norman Invasion, and a series of historical films. Two events children’s events were held in Bridgend and Maesteg libraries, where a reenactor engaged children with historic objects and stories.

We would like to thank the Ogwr Heritage Network and Awen Heritage volunteers whose dedication, time and hard work make Ogwr History Month possible. We also thank the hugely knowledgeable speakers who took part in the events. We received lots of positive feedback, including:

“We need to keep these things alive and thank you for your part in encouraging us to do so.”

“Congratulations on another brilliant History Month. I really enjoyed all the ones I attended and learned a lot. The venues and the speakers were well chosen to provide a variety of topics.”

“I was unable to attend every event however, I was extremely impressed with the events that I attended. I attended the events in Y Bocs Oren and it was a brilliant location. Every speaker were experts on their subjects and every speaker and every subject were very interesting and relevant. I thoroughly enjoyed the various formats that were used in the presentation of these talks. I look forward to attending more events in Y Bocs Oren, Neuadd y Dref and the Heritage Centre in the future in both y Cymraeg and English language.”

Ogwr History Month was funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council.
