Reading for pleasure has the power to support mental wellbeing, increase empathy and social connection, and improve literacy and learning skills. That’s why we are proud to ‘Go All In’ and support the National Year of Reading, a UK-wide campaign encouraging people to reconnect with reading through their passions and everyday life.

Supported by Welsh Government, the National Year of Reading invites libraries, schools, families and community organisations to champion reading in all its forms, from printed books and storytelling to eBooks and audiobooks. The campaign emphasises that reading can be integrated into everyday interests, from sport, music and TV to film, cooking and gaming.

Awen Libraries play a key role in helping people discover the joy of reading, whatever your age, interests or background. We are committed to removing barriers to reading and ensuring everyone can take part, with free access to (and no fines for overdue books), online resources, warm and welcoming spaces, and friendly and helpful staff.

Here are just a few of the ways, you can get involved…

  • Take part in one of our initiatives designed to encourage reading for pleasure, including our award-winning 21 Book Challenge for adults, Teen Reading Challenge and World Book Night.

  • For children and families, the annual World Book Day Schools Quiz and Summer Reading Challenge helps build a lifelong love of reading in a fun and supportive way, with prizes for everyone who takes part.

  • Feed your curiosity and pop into your local library for a browse, especially if you haven’t visited for a while. You may be surprised by the different types of books you can borrow or the many weekly events they run.

Whatever you are into, you’ll find your library is the perfect place to Go All In. For more information about what's on locally, visit www.awen-libraries.com.
